Filsket Riding Club - Following Roxanne Permers survey into community needs in Burra it transpired that there was a lot of interest in forming a pony club within Burra, so a small group of local people got together to try and get the idea off the ground. The main goal was to form a club to provide riding lessons, education and general stable management to children and adults in Burra and Trondra. We started out in 2005 with 25 members, 21 of which were children between the ages of 5 and fifteen. One of the first things was a very successful day trip to Thordale in Walls, which we funded ourselves.
We are a voluntary non-profit making organization, and because safety of the children is a priority and for insurance purposes we wanted a qualified instructor to teach us, we were lucky to secure the services of Suzie Nicolson. And we secured premises for a riding arena and grazing within Burra.
We then began sourcing loan ponies, as they would come with their own tack thus keeping costs to a minimum, however our objective is to acquire our own ponies.
Although the club is still mainly based in the Burra/Trondra area, we now have members form all over Shetland.
We have been able to aquire 2 ponies so far but are always looking for more, so if you know of any for loan or sale please get in touch.
Right, now it's time to check out the rest of the site, so if you are ready:
"Lets all Trot on"!
