DA VOAR REDD UP
For the first time ever Filsket Riding Club has taken part in The Voar Redd Up. We participated on the actual weekend of The Redd Up on Saturday the 17th of April, when we set of to clean the Burwick Beach at the back of Scalloway. A splendid turnout of members and their parents all met in the Scalloway Surgery car park at 10 am. Marcia and Monica’s brother-in-law Trevor, had very kindly loaned the club his Landrover for the day and Eva and Jim from Berry Farm had also given us the loan of their trailer. Saturday’s weather did not look to promising but as some of the members were coming from Aith, Cunningsburgh, Lerwick, etc to take part, it was really too short notice to rearrange the day, so after four trips over the hill to ferry the particapants there the Redd Up commenced. Fifty bags of rubbish were collected in no time at all, (next year we’ll ask for 200!) Joyce and Debbie came down to join us and thank us for our efforts, and we gathered as much rubbish as we could that we couldn’t get bagged up, at the top of the beach for David and Joyce to finnish of the Redd Up at a later date A picnic snack was enjoyed before a photo shoot to prove we actually did it!, and the morning was rounded off rather nicely by Helen and Tracy who decided to go for a paddle!! Much to the amusement of the group. All sponsor forms and monies collected for the Redd Up should be handed back to Monica, as soon as possible (preferably by Friday the 30th of April) in order that she can get a total sum raised notified on the website.
CRUAN RIDING SCHOOL SUMMER CAMP
Sarah from Cruan, Orkney, has been in touch to say that the Summer Camp will run from Tuesday the 27th of July until Saturday the 31st of July. Berths have been reserved on Northlink by Jane for us, but any member who would like to attend, and has not gotten in touch with Monica , should do so as soon as possible, by phoning her on Scalloway 880556, mobile 07765061689, or email Monica For the more experienced members travelling to Orkney, part of the summer camp will be at the Gaitnip Cross Country Course, which will be a totally new experience for them.
GRAND RAFFLE PRIZE DRAW
On Saturday night the 24th of April we held our annual Grand Prize Raffle Draw, at the Scalloway Boating Club. Once again the Filsket house band, Scaldin Bragg, provided the music and a great night was had. Tracy and Helen have once, and yet again, done us proud, they managed to raise the magnificent sum of £2039.40, (clear) from the door takings and all the raffle ticket sales. (They are now officially “all raffled out”). A big thanks to all who donated raffle prizes, and a special congratulations to Vivienne Hunter from Scalloway who won the top prize donated by Northlink Ferries and City Wharf Apartments.
